Philippines Lifts Interactive Brokers Access Restrictions
Interactive Brokers' platform has been reported accessible again without a virtual private network (VPN) in the Philippines, following months of access restrictions implemented by local telecommunications companies under regulatory directives. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) had restricted access to the platform due to concerns over unlicensed financial services and Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs). However, users on major domestic internet service providers (ISPs), including PLDT, Globe Telecom, and Converge ICT Solutions, have confirmed that they can now access the IBKR website and mobile applications directly. Additionally, mobile data networks from Smart, Globe, and Dito also reportedly allow direct connection to the platform.
While some users have noted that full account settings are functioning normally without external bypass tools, others have reported that cryptocurrency trading services for Philippine residents appear to be restricted. The removal of digital asset features may be related to the restoration of local access, but neither Interactive Brokers nor Philippine regulators have issued an official statement confirming a connection.
