Coinbase Freezes $3M Tied to Southeast Asia Scam Networks

Crypto exchange Coinbase has taken action against a global scam operation in Southeast Asia, freezing over $3 million in cryptocurrency. The operation was part of Disruption Week, led by the US Department of Justice's Scam Center Strike Force, which aims to tackle crypto fraud targeting Americans.

The operation involved joint actions with authorities around the world, including the US, UAE, China, Austria, and Albania. This multi-agency effort is a significant step in disrupting scam infrastructure this year.

According to Coinbase, the blockchain technology provides a transparent, immutable, and permanent record of every transaction, making it easier for law enforcement to track down scammers.
