GYEN Stablecoin: Regulated Yen-Backed Token for Cross-Border Payments
The GYEN stablecoin is a regulated US-issued yen-backed token that allows for the transfer of yen on blockchain platforms. Its main competitors are JPYC and BitFlyer's JYEN, which have domestic Japanese regulatory legitimacy and accessibility to non-Japanese users through Coinbase and DeFi protocols.
GYEN has documented use cases in Japanese-American remittances, DeFi-based yen-denominated yield strategies, and yen exposure hedging for crypto portfolios with JPY liabilities. The stablecoin market is expected to expand globally, with adoption of non-USD stablecoins accelerating in countries like the UAE and South Korea.
The GENIUS Act, signed in July 2025, requires full reserve backing, monthly audits, and AML compliance for payment stablecoins, which GYEN already meets. This creates a clearer playing field for regulated stablecoins like GYEN and advantages it over unregulated competitors.
