Tennessee Trio Indicted in Bay Area Cryptocurrency Robbery Spree
Three men from Tennessee have been charged with federal crimes related to a string of high-profile robberies targeting cryptocurrency holders in the Bay Area and Los Angeles.
The trio, Elijah Armstrong, 21, Nino Chindavanh, 21, and Jayden Rucker, 25, are accused of conspiring to commit Hobbs Act robbery and kidnapping, as well as attempting these crimes.
According to court documents, the men used a ruse to gain access to their victims' homes, posing as deliverymen before using guns, duct tape, and zip ties to overpower them. In one instance, a victim was coerced into transferring $6.5 million from their cryptocurrency accounts to a wallet controlled by the conspirators.
If convicted, each of the men faces significant prison time and fines, with potential sentences ranging up to 20 years for certain counts and even life in prison for kidnapping charges.
