Altcoin Interest Plummets to Two-Year Low, Could Signal Rally
The cryptocurrency market has seen a significant shift in investor focus towards bitcoin, with altcoin interest hitting its lowest level in two years. According to data from Santiment, mentions of altcoins on social media have plummeted, with their social scores falling from 750 in July 2025 to just 33 in the last week of February.
The Google Trends data shows a similar trend, with searches for 'altcoin' dropping to 4 points in late February from 100 in mid-August. This extreme drop in interest could be a signal of an upcoming altcoin rally, as some market indicators suggest that the focus is currently on bitcoin.
The total cryptocurrency market capitalization has fallen by 43% since October last year and is now around $2.45 trillion. CoinMarketCap's altcoin season index stood at 34 out of 100, signaling a 'bitcoin season'. This means that the performance of the top 100 altcoins versus bitcoin over the past 90 days has been favoring bitcoin.
