The Pi Network has set its sights on a major milestone with the upcoming launch of Protocol 23, a significant upgrade to its blockchain that will introduce full smart contract functionality. According to official announcements, the activation date for Protocol 23 has been moved forward from May 18 to May 11 as part of an accelerated upgrade cycle. This move coincides with the network's participation in the Consensus 2026 conference in Miami, where co-founders Dr. Chengdiao Fan and Nicolas Kokkalis will be speaking on May 6 and 7.
Protocol 23 builds upon the foundation established by Protocol 22, which removed non-compliant nodes and enforced network synchronisation. The new protocol enables developers to write and deploy programmable contracts directly on Pi's Mainnet, unlocking a range of decentralised applications, including token launches via the Pi Launchpad and real-world asset tokenisation.
The activation date of May 11 creates a tight strategic sequence for the network, with public appearances at Consensus followed by the most significant technical upgrade in its seven-year history.
