Bankman-Fried's Fraud Conviction and 25-Year Sentence Upheld by Appeals Court

Sam Bankman-Fried's attempt to overturn his fraud conviction and 25-year prison sentence has been rejected, according to a recent Reuters report. The failed appeal means that Bankman-Fried will have to serve out his full sentence for the seven counts of fraud and conspiracy related to the collapse of FTX and its sister trading firm Alameda Research.

The convictions stemmed from the massive losses incurred by customers when the exchange imploded in November 2022, resulting in billions of dollars in losses. The court had sentenced Bankman-Fried to 25 years in federal prison in March 2024.

This ruling closes off one of the primary legal avenues that Bankman-Fried had pursued to challenge his conviction and sentence.
