Ripple Defends Its Support for Clarity Act Amid Industry Criticism
Ripple's CTO Emeritus David Schwartz has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the Clarity Act and its potential impact on smaller cryptocurrency projects. The bill, which aims to provide regulatory clarity for the crypto industry, has been criticized by some for favoring established tokens like XRP over newer ones.
Schwartz acknowledged that Ripple, like any company, does not operate purely out of altruism and will act in its own interest if necessary. However, he emphasized that the company has consistently chosen not to advocate solely for its own interests, even when it had the opportunity to do so.
He argued that passing a flawed regulatory bill is still preferable to leaving the industry without any legal framework. Schwartz also noted that widespread success among multiple firms builds enterprise trust, regulatory confidence, and consumer adoption, drawing parallels to the early internet era.
