US Digital Asset Industry on Cusp of Major Regulatory Shift
The US digital asset industry is on the cusp of a significant shift, according to Miles Jennings, general counsel at a16z crypto. Jennings describes the current market situation as a once-in-a-generation opportunity for innovation and growth.
The key to this transition lies in three major pillars of reform: the CLARITY Act, the GENUIS Act, and a joint interpretation by the SEC and CFTC on March 17, 2026. The CLARITY Act aims to resolve long-standing uncertainty by permanently defining the jurisdictional boundaries between the two regulatory bodies.
The recent Senate compromise on stablecoin rewards has cleared a critical bipartisan hurdle, allowing negotiators to reach a final agreement on the contentious issue. This decision prohibits passive yield that resembles interest on traditional bank deposits and removes the primary obstacle to a Senate Banking Committee markup.
