Former PBOC Governor Warns of Cryptoasset Risks and Limited Usefulness

Zhou Xiaochuan, a prominent figure in China's financial policymaking, recently spoke at the Boao Forum for Asia, where he highlighted the limitations and risks associated with cryptoassets. According to him, the core of blockchain technology lies not in its technical capabilities but rather in how well it meets real-world user needs and payment use cases.

Zhou questioned the practical usefulness of cryptoassets, suggesting that their performance is not the primary factor determining a payment system's superiority. Instead, he emphasized that overall fitness is the key to success, implying that cryptoassets may not be as effective in real-world economic settings as they are touted to be.
