Blockchain Networks Face Insufficient Capacity for AI-Driven Transactions

Blockchain networks face a significant challenge as the demand for high-speed transactions increases due to the growing influence of AI agents. According to Stripe's founders, Patrick Collison and John Collison, current infrastructure is insufficient to meet this demand, which could lead to failure and significant delays in processing transactions.

The brothers note that top-performing networks today, such as Solana and Internet Computer, have theoretical maximums of 65,000-209,708 TPS but still fall short of the billion TPS required for AI-scale operations. They emphasize the need for universal interoperability between systems to enable seamless communication and data exchange.

To address this challenge, Stripe proposes a horizontal architecture consisting of multiple interacting chains rather than single high-TPS networks. This approach would also require careful balancing of decentralization and operational costs while prioritizing energy efficiency. As AI adoption accelerates, the first blockchain networks to achieve these scalability benchmarks could dominate the emerging market for automated digital transactions.
