The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a warning about a scam on the Tron blockchain, where a fake token is impersonating the agency to trick users into providing personal information.
The scammers claim that the user's wallet is under investigation and must complete an anti-money laundering verification to avoid having their assets frozen. The FBI urges users to exercise caution and not provide any identifying information.
This is not the first time the FBI has encountered a scam on the blockchain. In 2024, they created a fake token called NexFundAI as part of a sting operation to catch fraudsters engaged in market manipulation. At least 18 people were charged in connection with this operation.
