Canada Aims to Block Crypto Donations with Strong Elections Bill
The Canadian government has taken a significant step towards ensuring the integrity of its democratic system by introducing the Strong and Free Elections Act Bill.
The bill proposes to ban donations in the form of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ripple from being used in political party and campaign funding. This move is aimed at addressing concerns over the increasing use of hard-to-trace digital assets in politics.
Under the proposed law, third-party organizations involved in political activities would be required to obtain funds from Canadian citizens or permanent residents, except for minimal donations. The government believes that this measure will prevent foreign influence and maintain transparency in election funding.
