Crypto Detective Foils Ransom Kidnapping with Help from Binance Security
A recent kidnapping case in France has highlighted the growing threat of cryptocurrency-facilitated crimes. In August 2023, a man was kidnapped by a group posing as Amazon delivery workers in Sarthe, France. The kidnappers demanded $2 million in ransom and sent videos of the victim to his son, who is a popular streamer known as TeufeurS.
The victim's son paid the ransom despite investigators' recommendations to avoid further compromising their investigation. However, thanks to the efforts of crypto detective ZachXBT, some of the ransom money has been frozen, and six suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.
ZachXBT, an American blockchain investigator, worked with Binance Security to freeze around $800K in cryptocurrency that had been paid by TeufeurS as ransom. The crypto detective's efforts have brought a sense of relief to the victim's family and have also raised awareness about the need for vigilance against cryptocurrency-facilitated crimes.
