Standard Chartered Secures MiCA License as EU Crypto Market Expands

Standard Chartered has secured its MiCA license, joining 37 new firms added to the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) register. The total number of licensed crypto providers in the EU now stands at 280. This batch is the first major licensing wave since the MiCA transitional period closed on July 1.

The ESMA register update shows that these firms have obtained their CASP licenses, with FalconX and Sygnum Europe being two examples of crypto-native firms to receive this status. Crédit Agricole's CACEIS has also entered the register as an e-money token issuer.

Standard Chartered announced both a MiCA authorization and an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license through Standard Chartered Luxembourg S.A., which will allow the bank to expand its services across Europe. The bank plans a phased rollout, with passporting subject to further approvals.
