Vitalik Buterin Develops Private AI Setup for Secure Crypto Transactions

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has taken a significant step towards protecting the privacy of cryptocurrency transactions by developing an AI system that he runs entirely on his own hardware. The setup, which uses a laptop with an Nvidia 5090 GPU, produces around 90 tokens per second and is connected to his Ethereum wallet and messaging accounts.

The use of cloud-based AI tools poses a serious threat to personal privacy, according to Buterin, who cited a recent security finding that informed the design of his system. Researchers found that roughly 15% of third-party tools built for OpenClaw contained malicious instructions, with some quietly sending user data to outside servers without indication.

Buterin's AI setup is an extension of his existing approach to managing his crypto holdings, which involves storing 90% of his funds in a multisig Safe wallet. He recommends that any team building AI tools connected to Ethereum wallets cap autonomous spending at $100 per day, with any transaction above this threshold requiring human confirmation.
