Ethereum Foundation Unveils Strawmap Roadmap for Next Four Years

The Ethereum Foundation has released a roadmap document titled the 'strawmap', which outlines seven planned protocol forks through 2029. The document is intended as a technical coordination tool for the Ethereum Foundation's protocol team, providing a unified perspective on the network's long-term ambitions.

The strawmap proposes roughly seven protocol forks over the next four years, with each fork occurring approximately every six months. This cadence is central to how the EF protocol team has structured the document, allowing for manageable upgrades while maintaining a consistent pace of progress.

The five long-term goals that shape the technical direction of Ethereum through the end of the decade are key components of the strawmap. These include faster L1 finality, 1 gigagas/sec throughput via zkEVMs, high-throughput L2 via data availability sampling, post-quantum cryptography, and native privacy-preserving ETH transfers.
