Iran's Largest Crypto Exchange Nobitex Tied to Influential Family Network
Nobitex, Iran's leading cryptocurrency exchange, has been found to be linked to a powerful family network. The exchange was founded in 2018 by two brothers, Ali Kharrazi and Mohammad Kharrazi, who allegedly used a different surname, Aghamir, to conceal their family ties.
The Kharrazi family is known for its influential connections in Iran, with the two brothers being grandsons of an elder religious leader and having ties to high leadership groups. Their father, Bagher Kharrazi, was also a prominent political and religious figure.
Nobitex has experienced rapid growth, serving over 11 million users who rely on it for financial access due to international sanctions and economic instability. The exchange allows users to purchase and store cryptocurrency, providing an alternative to traditional banking services.
However, the connection to the elite family raises concerns about political influence and global compliance. Nobitex has denied any ties with the government, stating that it is a privately operated platform. Nevertheless, the investigation highlights the complexities surrounding the exchange's operations and its implications for international sanctions and security challenges.
