Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has outlined a new framework for crypto security that seeks to minimize the gap between user intent and system behavior.

The framework emphasizes redundancy and multi-angle verification as key strategies to reduce the risk of tail-risk scenarios. This approach acknowledges that perfect security is impossible due to the complexity of human intent, which cannot be fully encoded in code.

Buterin's framework suggests that users should specify their intent through multiple overlapping methods, and systems should only act when all specifications align. This approach applies across various areas, including Ethereum wallets, operating systems, formal verification, and hardware security.
