Brian Armstrong Donates Millions to Life Extension Research Amid Crypto Market Decline
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has announced plans to sell 2% of his shares in the company, valued at $54 million. This decision comes as the cryptocurrency market continues to face challenges, with Coinbase's stock losing around 75% of its value year-to-date.
Armstrong stated that he intends to lead Coinbase 'for a very long time' and is not planning to step down from his role. The funds raised from the sale of his shares will be donated to support scientific research focused on increasing human life expectancy, with two organizations, NewLimit and ResearchHub, among the beneficiaries.
The decision marks a new direction for Armstrong's philanthropic efforts, which have previously been centered around cryptocurrency education and adoption. However, he emphasized that this move does not signal any change in his commitment to Coinbase or its mission to advance the use of cryptocurrency.
