Solana and Google Launch Stablecoin Payment Gateway for AI Agents

Solana and Google have partnered to launch Pay.sh, a new stablecoin payment gateway that allows AI agents to access and pay for APIs on a per-request basis. This innovative solution is designed to cater to the needs of autonomous software, providing a fast, secure, and cost-effective way to facilitate transactions.

The service uses Solana's low-fee network to enable small payments, including fractions of a cent, making it an attractive option for developers who want to charge for single API calls instead of monthly plans. By using stablecoins on the Solana blockchain, AI agents can pay for Google Cloud services and APIs without the need for standard accounts, API keys, or subscriptions.

Pay.sh is built on top of x402, an open payment standard developed by Coinbase and later moved under the Linux Foundation. This protocol uses the HTTP 402 'Payment Required' status code to enable direct payments through web requests. Additionally, Pay.sh also supports the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) developed by Tempo and Stripe, providing another route for machine-to-machine payments.
