South Korean Ex-Police Officer Receives Six-Year Prison Sentence for Bribery

A South Korean former police officer has been sentenced to six years in prison for accepting bribes linked to cryptocurrency investigations.

The officer, who was responsible for investigating crypto fraud, received approximately $82,000 in payments between December 2023 and March 2024.

The court ruled that the conduct undermined public trust and compromised the integrity of law enforcement. The officer's actions were deemed to have 'greatly undermined the fairness and appropriateness of the job and social trust'.

In addition to the prison sentence, the officer was also fined 100 million won (approximately $69,000).
