Begich Revives Bitcoin Reserve Bill as American Reserves Modernization Act
US Representative Nick Begich has announced plans to rebrand the Bitcoin Act as the American Reserves Modernization Act (ARMA). The move aims to draw more support from lawmakers for a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve similar to that of gold. Speaking at the recent Bitcoin conference in Las Vegas, Congressman Begich stated that the rebranding is intended to bolster backing for the bill.
The ARMA bill differs little from its predecessor except in name and strategy. It still proposes adding 200,000 BTC annually to the national reserve over five years, which would be stored securely away from cyber threats. The coins would remain non-disposable for two decades unless sold to reduce federal debt.
Moreover, the Act mandates that government purchases of Bitcoin utilize the Fed's discretionary surplus funds or profits made from gold accumulation. Previously, much of the national BTC reserves originated from criminals' seized assets or fines paid in cryptocurrency.
