Spokane Valley's City Council is debating an ordinance to remove all cryptocurrency ATMs from the city, citing concerns over rising fraud cases.
The machines, which are found in stores across the city, have become tools for scammers to steal thousands of dollars from residents. According to police reports, a single victim recently lost $300,000 to one of these scams.
City officials say that the anonymity offered by cryptocurrency transactions makes it difficult to track down scammers, and that a ban on ATMs could help prevent further losses.
