Russia's Elite Flee Assets Amid Confiscation Fears

High-profile asset confiscations have spooked Russia's elite into moving their wealth abroad. According to Bloomberg, several billionaires have shifted their investment portfolios towards cryptocurrencies, gold, overseas real estate, and private investment funds in jurisdictions like the Gulf countries.

The concern is that the state could seize their wealth or they might lose their savings due to the condition of the banking sector. As a result, some of Russia's richest people have seen a shift in the structure of their investment portfolios towards assets that are perceived as safer and more liquid.

Russian billionaires are using new methods to move capital abroad, including cryptocurrencies and informal routes through countries like Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Dubai's status as a crypto hub has also made it easier for Russia's elite to transfer money between different jurisdictions.
