Crypto Markets Nail Pre-IPO Prices for Cerebras and SpaceX
The pre-IPO perpetual futures crypto market has been testing its mettle in recent months, and one test case stands out: Cerebras Systems. In May of last year, Trade.xyz launched a pre-IPO perpetual on Hyperliquid, which began trading at around $354.54, just 1.3% above the Nasdaq opening price of $350 for Cerebras' IPO.
The accuracy was no fluke; it validated the concept of these synthetic derivative contracts, which allow traders to express views on a company's equity value before its public listing. These contracts carry no ownership stakes or voting rights and are not shares themselves.
Pre-IPO perpetual futures trade 24/7 on platforms like Hyperliquid, Binance, Coinbase International, Gate.io, and OKX, giving participants a continuous view of market sentiment around private companies' value. This is particularly useful for retail investors who don't have access to accredited markets or secondary transactions.
The Cerebras Systems case has been closely studied by trading desks and DeFi circles due to its impressive accuracy in pricing the company's shares before its IPO. The same pattern is now being observed with SpaceX, which is gearing up for what could be the largest public offering in history.
