Brazil Seizes Illicit Bitcoin Mining Rigs, Highlighting Country's Crypto Enforcement Efforts

Regulators in Brazil have made a significant move against illicit cryptocurrency activities by shutting down an illegal Bitcoin mining operation in São Paulo. The crackdown resulted in the confiscation of approximately 1,400 mining machines that had been siphoning off large amounts of electricity from the grid.

The seized mining rigs were equipped with sophisticated industrial transformers, allowing them to draw 2 gigawatt-hours of electricity. This is equivalent to powering around 2,000 homes for a month, highlighting the significant scale of the operation.

The move comes as part of new legislation in Brazil that enables authorities to seize and liquidate digital assets linked to illicit activities. This shift in approach signifies the country's focus on enforcing crypto laws rather than banning mining or trading altogether.
