CME Group Expands Crypto Derivatives Offerings with Avalanche and Sui Futures
The CME Group has announced plans to launch futures contracts for two new layer 1 blockchain assets: Avalanche (AVAX) and Sui (SUI). These contracts will be available on May 4, subject to regulatory approval.
Avalanche, a high-throughput smart contract platform built by Ava Labs, currently trades around $8.6 per token, representing an 94% decline from its November 2021 peak near $145. Sui, the Move-based blockchain developed by former Meta engineers at Mysten Labs, has a market value of approximately $0.87, down about 84% from its January 2025 high of $5.3.
The CME Group's move to add these new assets is part of its efforts to expand client choice and enhance capital efficiency in the liquid crypto derivatives markets. According to Giovanni Vicioso, Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products at the CME Group, 'We continue to see strong volumes as market participants turn to our markets to manage risk and pursue opportunities.'
