Altcoin Season Remains Elusive as Bitcoin Dominance Persists
The cryptocurrency market has been experiencing a prolonged period of stagnation since Bitcoin reached its all-time high in October 2025. Traditionally, capital would rotate from Bitcoin into Ethereum and then into other altcoins once Bitcoin hits a new all-time high.
However, this pattern is not being followed in the current market. The introduction of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in 2024 has led to an influx of institutional investment, with most funds tending to stay concentrated in Bitcoin.
This concentration of wealth in the largest cryptocurrency has resulted in a lack of movement in the altcoin market, causing the CoinMarketCap Altcoin Index to sit at 32. While some investors remain hopeful for an upcoming altseason, analysts believe that this is unlikely without a weakening of Bitcoin dominance and a trend of top-performing altcoins.
