SBP Lifts Restrictions on Banking Services for Licensed Crypto Firms
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced a significant development in its policy towards cryptocurrency firms. The central bank has lifted long-standing restrictions on banking services for licensed crypto currency firms, enabling them to open accounts with local banks.
This move marks a shift in the SBP's approach from caution to controlled adoption. Commercial banks will now be permitted to provide account services to licensed cryptocurrency companies, facilitating transparent financial transactions and encouraging compliance with regulatory standards.
The easing of restrictions is expected to bring crypto-related activities into the formal economy, reducing reliance on informal channels. It may also attract investment in blockchain technology, which has seen rapid global growth in recent years.
