Apple's New CEO Inherently Faces Crypto Scam Challenge
Apple's new CEO John Ternus is set to inherit a complex security challenge as the company's App Store faces scrutiny over fake crypto wallet apps and multimillion-dollar thefts. The scam, linked to a malware campaign called SparkKitty, has been active since late 2025 and has already caused significant financial damage.
According to cybersecurity researchers at Kaspersky Threat Research, at least 26 applications impersonating major crypto brands have slipped into Apple's ecosystem, exposing users to losses. The apps, which appear harmless enough to avoid early detection, direct users to webpages designed to look like official App Store listings.
Ternus will begin his tenure with investors watching how Apple handles its product roadmap and AI strategy, as well as how firmly it responds to the growing use of its platform by organized crypto thieves. The real test for Ternus will be whether Apple treats crypto fraud on iOS as a fringe problem or a core threat to the platform's brand.
