The Comptroller of the Currency faced intense scrutiny over its handling of crypto banking charters, with lawmakers questioning potential political influence in the agency's decisions.
During a House Financial Services Committee hearing, Jonathan Gould, the OCC's head, was pressed about World Liberty Financial's bid for an OCC national bank charter. The company, co-founded by Donald Trump and two of his sons, submitted its application in January.
The hearing underscored the importance of transparency and consistency in regulatory reviews, with lawmakers emphasizing the need to ensure that the process is insulated from political considerations.
