Cryptocurrency Facilitates Military Drone Procurement Networks

A new report from Chainalysis highlights the growing use of cryptocurrency by groups connected to Russia and Iran for acquiring military drones.

The study found that while conventional financial methods are still widely used, blockchain technology is becoming increasingly important in these procurement networks. By tracing crypto transactions through blockchain, researchers were able to map detailed information about purchases made from e-commerce vendors.

The report also notes a significant increase in pro-Russian groups raising cryptocurrency donations since the escalation of conflict in Ukraine in 2022, with drones being frequently prioritized as a purchase item.
