Cardano Shifts Core Development to Decentralized Teams
Cardano is decentralizing its core development process by transferring control of key infrastructure components to independent teams. The shift, set to begin in August 2026 and complete by 2027, aims to improve innovation, redundancy, and release predictability. This change is part of a broader effort to move away from the single-company model led by Input Output Global (IOG).
The decentralized multi-team approach will see teams coordinated by Intersect handle node, ledger, and tooling updates with clear testing and release processes. The Cardano Foundation will continue to support standards and ecosystem health.
This move promises faster and more resilient development but also requires careful coordination to avoid fragmentation or delays. The goal is to boost decentralization and growth while maintaining the blockchain's sovereignty.
