The term 'stablecoin' has been a cornerstone of the cryptocurrency world since its introduction in 2014. However, industry leaders are now calling for a change, arguing that it no longer accurately reflects the technology's capabilities.
Robert Hackett, head of crypto projects at a16z, believes that the name is outdated and too narrow. He suggests that stablecoins may eventually be referred to as simply 'money', signifying their full integration into the financial system.
