West Virginia Legislature Proposes Regulation on Cryptocurrency ATMs
Legislation aimed at protecting West Virginia's senior population from cryptocurrency scams has been introduced by State Senator Trenton Barnhart.
The proposed law, which has the support of AARP, seeks to regulate Crypto ATMs that have increasingly appeared across the state without oversight. These kiosks, often placed in rural areas where seniors are more prevalent, are accused of facilitating fraudulent activities targeting older individuals.
AARP's Gaylene Miller emphasizes the need for regulation: 'These safeguards need to be in place because these kiosks aren't regulated at all in West Virginia.'
