Canada's AIMCo Enters Bitcoin Market with $219M Strategy Share Purchase
AIMCo, the public pension fund manager for Alberta, has made its first foray into Bitcoin by purchasing $219 million worth of Strategy shares. This move marks a significant shift in institutional interest in cryptocurrency exposure, with big funds like AIMCo typically being cautious in their investments.
The purchase is notable due to the size, with $219 million being a significant investment for any fund. However, it is still modest relative to the fund's total assets, which are reported to be between $142 billion and $195 billion.
Strategy shares are already held by other Canadian institutions, including banks and pension funds, making AIMCo's move a significant development in the cryptocurrency market.
