Restore Britain Refunds Cryptocurrency Donations Amidst Concerns Over Legitimacy
Restore Britain, a new political party founded by ex-Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe, has refunded donations from an anonymous cryptocurrency project called Britain Token.
The refunds came after concerns were raised about the legitimacy of the payments with the Electoral Commission. Labour MP Phil Brickell had urged the watchdog to investigate the donations.
Britain Token is a memecoin that was created in February this year by anonymous developers and investors. The project claims it has donated around £26,000 to Restore Britain, but its true intentions are unclear.
The Electoral Commission is considering the information, but has not yet opened a formal investigation into the matter.
