G7 Warns of North Korea's Crypto Theft and Cybercrime Threat

G7 leaders have reiterated their concerns over North Korea's cryptocurrency thefts and cybercrimes, linking them to the country's nuclear and missile programs.

The G7 statement, issued after the summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, urged member nations to take joint action against the threats. However, it did not name new sanctions or enforcement tools.

According to Chainalysis, North Korean hackers stole at least $2.02 billion in cryptocurrency in 2025 alone, pushing the all-time total linked to DPRK actors to at least $6.75 billion.

CrowdStrike reported a 51% yearly rise in digital asset theft in 2025, with North Korea-linked groups using AI-generated identities and other tactics to target crypto and financial firms.
