Bessent Defends Trump's Crypto Profits Amid Conflict-of-Interest Concerns
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent defended President Donald Trump's massive earnings from crypto ventures during an interview with CBS, despite concerns over conflict-of-interest questions.
Trump took in roughly $1.2 billion last year from his investments in the industry, including $500 million from World Liberty Financial and $600 million from CIC Digital LLC.
The figures come as Trump's administration has loosened regulations on crypto, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest tied to the president's business dealings.
Bessent framed the issue as part of a broader technology agenda, saying 'This is an innovation presidency...all Americans are benefiting from that.'
However, critics argue that Trump's investments in crypto raise questions about whether he has a vested interest in policies that benefit his own businesses, particularly since World Liberty tokens and Trump meme coins have fallen sharply in value.
