SEC Launches Podcast Series Emphasizing Clearer Rulemaking for Cryptocurrency
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has introduced a podcast series called 'Material Matters with SEC Chairman Paul Atkins,' which aims to provide an inside look at the agency's work and its implications for the economy. The first episode features Commissioners Hester Peirce and Mark Uyeda discussing their priorities for 2026, including the need for clearer rulemaking and a more innovative approach to regulating cryptocurrency.
According to Peirce, the SEC wants to be 'the place where people want to innovate whether it's in crypto or something else.' She emphasizes the importance of sending a message that the agency will work with innovators to clarify ambiguities in the law. Uyeda also stresses the need for refocusing on the SEC's statutory mission and abandoning an enforcement-heavy approach.
The podcast marks a significant shift in the SEC's tone, which has been criticized for being overly aggressive towards cryptocurrency companies. The new approach is part of a broader effort to support responsible growth in digital assets, including the creation of a crypto task force led by Peirce and the introduction of executive orders on digital financial technology.
