Cryptocurrency Mining Companies Diversify into AI Infrastructure
HIVE Digital Technologies and Keel Infrastructure are embarking on a significant transformation, transitioning their focus from Bitcoin mining to artificial intelligence infrastructure. This strategic pivot is driven by the growing demand for high-performance computing resources and the evolving market conditions.
The companies are investing in data centers and GPU capacity, leveraging their existing expertise in large-scale computational operations and data center management. HIVE has secured $115 million through a zero-coupon convertible bond issuance, which will be used to expand its global data center footprint and increase GPU capacity.
Keel Infrastructure is selling its 70-megawatt mining facility in Paraguay for approximately $13 million, generating capital to fund its transition. The company's business model evolution reflects the broader industry trend of diversification into adjacent computational fields.
