Russia to Collect Substantial Tax Revenue from Cryptocurrency Miners

The Russian government has announced that it expects to collect approximately $7 million in taxes from cryptocurrency miners for 2025. This figure is significantly lower than the initial estimate of around $74 million.

According to Denis Kuzmichev, head of taxpayer registration and accounting at the Federal Tax Service (FNS), the tax revenue will be generated through personal income tax and corporate income tax. He highlighted several factors that have contributed to the lower estimate, including increased electricity tariffs in Russia, high global hash rate, and limited legalization.

Despite these challenges, Russia's mining sector has been growing rapidly, with an annual electricity consumption of 16 billion kWh and a total capacity of 4 GW. However, the industry is facing restrictions and fines for breaking regional bans on mining activity.
