Hana Bank Acquires Major Stake in Crypto Exchange Operator Dunamu
Hana Financial Group, the parent company of Hana Bank, has announced the acquisition of a 1 trillion won stake in Dunamu, the operator of Upbit, South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange. The deal was approved by Hana Bank's board and marks a significant move into the digital asset space for the bank.
The purchase includes 228 million shares from Kakao Investment, one of the major shareholders of Dunamu. This acquisition is seen as a strategic move by Hana Bank to tap into the growing demand for cryptocurrencies in South Korea.
