Florida Student Arrested for Stealing $200,000 from Steam Gamers

A Florida student has been arrested by the FBI for scamming Steam gamers out of more than $200,000 through malicious code embedded in several games.

Zyaire Wilkins, a 21-year-old University of West Florida student, allegedly hid crypto-stealing malware in Steam games like PirateFi, BlockBlasters, and Dashverse over 22 months. This resulted in the compromise of over 80 cryptocurrency accounts.

The scam was meticulously executed, with the group promoting the games on Discord, Telegram, and X, even using bots to target high-net-worth crypto holders.

However, investigators were able to trace the stolen funds back to Wilkins through a trail of converted Bitcoin used to purchase Uber Eats gift cards. These transactions led them to his home address and university address.
