US DOJ Seeks $25 Million in Cryptocurrency Linked to Romance and Investment Scams

The US Justice Department has filed complaints in federal court to seize over $25 million in cryptocurrency connected to romance and investment scam investigations.

According to a recent announcement, the DOJ's efforts aim to recover funds stolen from thousands of victims worldwide who were misled into investing in crypto platforms.

One of the largest cases involves more than $12 million, which was recovered from an investigation related to online romance scams that defrauded over 200 people. In another case, authorities are seeking forfeiture of $10.4 million in connection with fraudulent crypto investment platforms.

The funds are part of a larger effort by the Scam Center Strike Force, which has already recovered over $800 million from similar cases.
