Crypto Hacking Incidents Reach Record Levels with Over $650 Million Lost
The crypto market experienced one of its most severe months in recent years, with over $650 million lost due to a surge in security breaches.
According to data from CertiK Alert, around 40 major exploits occurred in April, with two incidents accounting for the majority of damage. The largest breach involved KelpDAO, where attackers extracted roughly $292 million, while Drift Protocol lost about $285 million.
The attacks demonstrate a shift in tactics by hackers, who are no longer relying mainly on coding mistakes but instead gaining access through people and systems. This has resulted in increased systemic risks across the DeFi market.
