Solana Policy Institute Urges Senate to Pass CLARITY Act with Developer Protections
The Solana Policy Institute has called for the passage of the CLARITY Act in the US Senate, highlighting the need for robust developer protections as part of the legislation.
Kristin Smith, President of the Solana Policy Institute and CEO at the Blockchain Association, emphasized that public blockchains rely on open-source contributors who write, maintain, and improve the code that runs them. She argued that these developers do not directly hold money or have control over transactions, but are essential to the functioning of the systems.
The institute's priority is to ensure that the CLARITY Act protects developers while targeting bad actors and maintaining open-source innovation. Smith stressed that the passage of the bill should preserve the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act (BRCA), which provides legal certainty for non-controlling software developers and infrastructure providers.
