US States Crack Down on Crypto ATMs Amid Scam Concerns
The US state of Delaware and New Jersey are moving to ban cryptocurrency ATMs (kiosks) in response to rising complaints about scams tied to the machines. The bills follow new data from the FBI showing 13,460 crypto kiosk complaints and over $388.9m in reported losses nationwide in 2025.
The Delaware House Economic Committee advanced House Bill 441 on June 9, which would ban the ownership, installation, and operation of cryptocurrency kiosks across the state. Representative Cyndie Romer sponsored the measure, saying that crypto ATMs 'reduce digital currency to a predatory cash grab'.
New Jersey's Senate Commerce Committee advanced Senate Bill 2141 on June 8, which would ban businesses from owning, controlling, installing, managing, selling or offering crypto ATMs in the state. The bill carries a penalty of up to $10,000 for a first offense and later violations could bring penalties of up to $20,000.
