The London Stock Exchange (LSE) is planning to launch an overnight trading venue in the first half of 2027, a move aimed at giving investors more time to trade London-listed products. The new market will operate from 5 p.m. to 7:50 a.m. daily, with a short pause between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. for end-of-day processing.
The LSE's main market will continue to have its regular trading hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., while the new venue will start with exchange-traded products (ETPs) rather than single stocks. This approach may help the exchange avoid timing and regulatory issues tied to individual shares.
The LSE plans to support more than 2,600 listed ETPs after launch, which could give global investors more ways to trade similar products outside normal market hours. The move is seen as a response to the growing demand for longer trading hours, driven by crypto exchanges and U.S. rivals that already allow around-the-clock trading.
The exchange also plans to add agentic AI tools to the venue, which could support portfolio review, market analysis, portfolio changes, and trade execution. This move is part of a broader trend in traditional exchanges extending their trading hours as crypto venues reshape investor expectations.
